Chief Kamachi - Cult Status
Review by Brian Kayser

Chief Kamachi has been killing mics for awhile, but he's never had the official solo album out that really got pushed. All that's changing now with "Cult Status," which is being released through Eastern Conference and Good Hands Records. The production on "Cult Status" is dirty and grimy, which is perfect for Kamachi's rugged flow.

The lead single was killing it on the college radio circuit. "The Best," which features Guru, has Mr. Baldhead Slick getting rediculously outshined by Kamachi, who sounds a lot hungrier over the head-nodding DJ Kwestion beat. "Cult Status" lets you know you're in for a trip from the jump with "1st Lecture" which has Kamachi opening the album with the lines "I'm live from the internal regions, I'm here for eternal reasons, These classics I'm breathing when I die, don't casket the heathen." Kamachi's lines are not ones you can breeze through. I've had to listen to songs a few times to catch everything, and that's what I like. Albums that put everything out there in a dumbed-down version are boring and have no playback value.

"Peddlin' Music" features JuJu Mob member Charon Don and it's one of the best cuts on the album. E.Dan and DJ Huggy killed the beat. Another JuJu Mob member that gets shine is Reef the Lost Cauze, who won the End of the Weak MC Challenge at the 2004 Rocksteady. "Liberated Wax" is another banger that shows why Kamachi's album is gonna be one of the best Hip Hop releases of 2004.
