DJ BIJAL aka Wally West is the youngest member of DJ
Kurupt's Team Jedi. Producing and distributing his mixtapes nationally
as well as internationaly in London & Japan. DJ BIJAL's ability to
get music buzzing on the streets has caused him to receive exclusive music
and test out music for some of the most respected record labels such as:
Jive Records, Def Jam, J Records, Universal Records, and many others.
How'd
you get down with DJ Kurupt's Team Jedi squad? I met Kurupt at Club Downtime, we were both judges for an mc battle they
had there. We talked, gave him a few mixtapes and he saw I wasnt like all the
other djs out there and he took a shinning to me.
What's
good with Team Jedi?
Team Jedi is the newest squad on the block. We consist of DJ Kurupt - The Master
Jedi, DJ Spinderella Preiiset (Salt-n-peppa), Paul Michael (Reggae Legen), DJ
Rob (put out some of the top selling dj break vinyl), and me.. DJ BIJAL aka
Wally West. We have alot of big things in the works we cant yet talk about.
We just dropped our 1st team mixtape & started holding it down every sunday
at Club Luahn in NYC.
How old
are you?
What's this an investagation?.... na just turned 21 not to long ago.
You make
beats too, what's good with that and what equipment do you use?
Yea im just dabbling in it right now, I use the equip. we have in out studio,
you know keyboards, MPC, the usual stuff. Only big thing I have on my belt is
a beat I co produced for a Net promo track.
How long
have you been putting together mixtapes?
Well not long just since Dec. 2002, so the 1st year i was learning but as you
can tell my mixtapes have gotten real serious.
How do
you go about starting work on a mixtape?
I call up labels or artist or they call me and we see if goes with the concept
I have for the mixtape. Its the same as making an album, have to meet with artist
and labels to put together a hot cd.
You're
a DJ for All Access DVD Magazine, what's good with that?
Yea, I linked up with them about a month ago, it's a business move we both made
to do cross promotion to promote each others companies and products and get
both out names out.
What's
your next project?
I have a few im working on right now, coming soon is "aka Wally West 2:
Against All Odds", "The Great American Dream w/ Gloria Velez",
"In Love With You (R&B)". Also, Team Jedi, we are working on Masta
Ace's mixtape, and Team Jedi's 2nd mixtape coming soon.
What's your opinion of the mixtape game now?
It's flooded! Too many djs are just getting songs and putting them on a cd and
calling them mixtapes. A mixtape is a promotional tool for labels to test songs
and get buzzes started. The point it to support the artist and help make sure
their career stays solid.A lot of cats are trying to be Clue by just talking
all over the cd with any song they can get.
You're
also a club DJ, what's been your favorite club that you've DJ'd so far?
It would be Float only cuz they main floor house dj sucked and they moved me
in there and I over packed the main floor in about 4 songs. THATS HOW WE DO
THINGS!
Any crazy
stories?
.... not that I can leak out to the public... but shouts to all the ladies in
house at Exit the night I held down when Playboy was there.
