 Interview

How long have you been in the game?
Close to 6 years I started djing then releasing volumes of my mix tape to the street; in 98 doing promo for Def Jam I learned a lot on how to run a label & NETWORKING.

People have probably seen your name alongside some big mix tapes, what mixtape are you most proud of?
I’m proud of all my mixtapes because they did so well in such a short period of time, the dj’s I calibrated with (Big Mike- Cruel Summer, Cut Master C- Hood Rich, Ron G- Connected, D-lyfe- the Wire) have the same vision of bring back hip hop to it’s original formula, not this oversaturated of wackness we been forced to listen to.

What's it like doing a mixtape with Big Mike?
Well I have a story with that tape it was called Cruel Summer & we got this exclusive joint called Boss of Bosses with Jadakiss, we sold crazy amounts of cd’s on the strength of that one track. A week later Clue & Envy dropped their cd & their number one track was Jadakiss- Boss of Bosses.

What about Ron G?
In my eyes I worked with a legend in the dj game, he’s crazy down to earth & I learned a lot from him when we calibrated on that tape.
Good Looking MY NIGGA

Do you think DJ's not scratching and blending on all the mixtapes is fucking up the game?
He’ll yeah these new mp3 dj’s are just trying to get on but they don’t realize they're hurting themselves in the long run.

You were also on "Rap City," how was that?
Big Shout to Imo Rice in Bet, he reviewed my résumé & within 2 weeks I receive a phone call to appear as a guest dj on the bassment with tigger.

What did you do for Saigon's "Warning Shots?"
Warning shots was going to be a mixtape for the streets, but I got this distribution deal so I spoke to Gotti from Abandonned Nation and you see the final product.

How important was that project to you?
It’s time for NYC Hip-Hop underground to be seen, they're selling numbers on the low and looking better than these rappers on major label. Now from June when his album dropped to December that’s been 6 months, Saigon got a major with Atlantic Records and Production deal with Just Blaze.

What made you want to work with Saigon?
Saigon is Saigon
You can’t say he sounds like the next man Jay-z 50 Cent etc etc

What about Theodore Unit?
Trife Diesel (TMF) is one of those artists I’m talking about that is going to blow. My thing is breaking in new Artists/Groups, these new A&R’s are pussy they just want to collect their checks and have their credit on the albums. Theodore Unit sold numbers, the music was for the hood and that’s why I signed them.
Big Shout to Mike Caruso & Ghost face (Peace)

How was it working with Redman?
I spoke to Jame Ellis, Redman’s manager about distributing his first mixtape, Redman- Ill @ Will Vol.1 he went certified Platinum in the world REAL TALK.

I understand you've got a dope ODB project in the works, can you speak on that?
R.I.P. ODB
Truthfully they gave me that project; I got Dame Dash and Dirt to sign off on the mix tape album when Dirt was alive. The album is called Old Bastard – Osirus dropping Jan 4th 2005.

What made you want to work with ODB?
He was ahead of his time that is why everyone loved him, he always reinvented himself from Odb, Baby Jesus, Osirus to Dirt Mcgirt he will be dearly missed in the hip hop culture.

Now that he's passed, does it make you mad that everyone wants to pay tribute to him when they didn't appreciate him when he was alive (doesn't go for everybody, just the dickriders)?
It’s the illusion we have on the culture right now it’s sad; the people have to wake up and stop sleeping on ill mc’s like Odb/Underground artist. He was one of a kind that is why he sold units he played a big factor in the Wu-Tang Movement. Imagine never hearing Shimmy Shimmy Ya, Brooklyn Zoo on the radio?

What else is coming up for you?
Can’t reveal the roster but I got the Heatmakers album dropping early next year Odb & Bars & Hooks just to name a few

What are you doing with Red Spyda now?
I’m working with Red Spyda & Beef you will see the new movement in the 2k5

Any last words?
GO COP THAT BARS & HOOKS ALBUM WHEN IT HITS THE STREET THE OFFICAL CRACK FOR THE 2K5 (DON’T SLEEP) NOW & LATERZ -
TRAIL & ERA, MY ALBUM THE QUEST & I’M WORKIN WITH A R&B CHICK SHE’S GOIN TO TAKEOVER THE GAME ON THE LOW.
