off, can you give Heads some background as to who you are?
Well my real Name is Domingo born and raised in East New York Brooklyn.I been
using my name since day one of being in the industry.I know there is a couple
of other cats using tne same name but I am good with it as long as niggas know
who the original Domingo is.
What equipment do you use?
Every major record I have ever done I used the ASR-10,but I presently use the
MPC 200XL and Triton rack.I mainly use the Triton for layering sounds not mainly
for playing.I tried that once and realized.I am a sampling nigga not Beethoven.
How did you start making beats?.I was introduced to music at an early age. My
uncle (R.I.P) influenced me bc he used to be a radio DJ and I used to listen
to DJ and was fascinated by it.Then when Hip Hop made its entrance I really
knew what I wanted to do.So like nearly 99% of producers I started off by Djing
clubs,parties etc.I was discovered by Marley Marl…but my Big push came
when Fat Joe put me on his album “Jealous ones envy” I did 4 tracks
on that lp and from there I was off and running.Those 2 cats I am extremely
grateful to til this day.
You've done work with a lot of superstars, who are your favorites to
work with?
That’s a really good question.I have worked with a lot of artists.I would
have to say with all the artists I ever worked with I have had different and
unique situations and they were all good.
How do
you feel about the amount of producers in the game now and the quality of the
music?
There is a producer and Emcee at every street corner you turn nowadays.I think
its great for hip hop bc every producer got their own style so there is room
for everyone.Just don’t forget the legends though bc I do read a lot of
times the the younger cats don’t even know who Rakim or melle Mel is and
that’s really sad.Do ya homework if you serious about doing Hip Hop.You
gotta know the history.
If you
could work with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I definitely would like to work with a Rock Group.Just to expand my sound.If
Kurt Cobain was still around he would definitely be my choice bc he had an ill
ass way of singing.
