What's
up?
I'm doing
good. I'm chilling. There's a lot of good things going on right now. We're
definitely grinding and things are definitely coming through now. For
being an unsigned artist, I'm getting a lot of great exposure and our
team is real sick with it as far as getting us that exposure.
You just
did MTV's Sucker Free. Were you nervous?
Yeah. That
was the first show where it was just me. That was so crazy. I was nervous
as hell, man, but at the end of the day, you have to put in work. When
Cipha Sounds told me to bust that freestyle out, I had to put in work.
To have that crowd up there was amazing. All I was hoping for was a crazy
response after I did it. It was fun. It was definitely fun and it was
a great look. I'm still surprised that MTV would call me to do that.
You were
also on Dirty Harry's new mixtape. How did that come about?
Dirty Harry
was working on his Unforgiven mixtape and he hit me asking for an accapella.
I went and dropped an accapella over any beat and I sent it to him. He
didn't tell me what he was going to do with it or anything like that.
He just said, Give me the accapella. Then I saw he put the mixtape out
and he did that blend with me and Big Pun on it over the Tru Life beat.
What does
being on a Dirty Harry mixtape mean to you?
It means
that he's acknowledging that I'm an MC and that I've been grinding for
a minute. For me to be an unsigned MC and to be on his mixtape, that's
an honor. He's giving me props and he's done a lot in the game. And that's
what got me on MTV. That credibility is definitely a great look in the
hip-hop game. Dirty Harry is an innovative dude. He has the craziest blends
and it's an honor to be on his mixtape. He actually puts in work on his
mixtape. He tries to give you something different to listen to and that's
what G. Luger is about. I'm trying to give you something different to
listen to.
How did
it feel seeing Harry put you next to Pun on the track?
When I first
heard it, I was disappointed because I was like, Damn. I didn't want to
be put next to Pun. I got mad love for Pun but I didn't want to be put
on that level. When he did, it sounded so crazy and the response we got
was so crazy and I loved it. The disappointment is that it's a virtual
track but it was still so hot the way he blended it that I couldn't deny
it.
What's
going on with the Virgin Vines project?
Virgin is
coming out with a line of wines and they're targeting the female market
between 21 and 35. They're putting out a campaign where they're using
unsigned artists and giving out bottles of wine with free downloads. They're
doing 80,000 bottles and they're going to have artists from all genres.
I'm covering the reggaeton genre.
How much
do you want to get into reggaeton?
Before all
the hip-hop shit, I was doing reggaeton. That's how I was discovered by
Rockwilder. I was doing the Spanish and Latin music. They discovered I
was nice with the English so I stuck with the hip-hop and lo and behold,
the Latin market was changing and I've been doing more reggaeton. I've
been getting more love from the Latin community and major media outlets
because of that reggaeton track. It's crazy that it had to go down like
that but it did. It tells me that it was destined to be that way.
Are you
worried about the reggaeton hurting your hip-hop credibility?
Nah, not
really. I'm an artist. I don't look at myself as a hip-hop artist or reggaeton
artist. I'm an artist, period. I'm going to do a lot of shit that you
probably wouldn't expect me to do. When you hear it, you're going to be
like, Oh shit! This dude is wilding! I'm not trying to do what everybody
else is doing. My name sets me apart from everything. The German Luger
gun sets itself apart from every other gun. That's a gun used to conquer.
That gun was used in World War II and it was used to conquer the world.
That's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to conquer every genre.
What's
going to happen first, hip-hop or reggaeton?
I love hip-hop
and reggaeton is something I'm good at doing. Hip-hop is always going
to be my main push. Reggaeton is good for the club. If you have reggaeton
skills, it's good to use them. Not every hip-hop song is going to bang
in the club. All the Latin women love that shit and it works great in
the club. I'm using the reggaeton shit to attack the clubs and the hip-hop
shit to attack the mixtapes and the streets.
How's
your single "Prendelo" doing for you?
It's doing
great. It came out through Warner Music Latin. They just put another order
in. The numbers are doing well for a compilation deal. We signed a single
deal with them. They did this compilation album with all unsigned artists
that have a big buzz. It's called AandR.com - The Buzz Volume 2. Two Five,
50's cousin, was on the first one. That jumped him up to where he's at
now.
What's
your label situation right now?
I'm a free
agent right now but I'm getting signed artist media coverage. We do it
big and that's thanks in part to our company Rico Entertainment. Not only
do I record music but I produce it and do all that. I'm a 25 hour dude.
We don't rest. We do it all.
Do you
see yourself being unsigned much longer?
I'm looking
to get either a great recording contract on a label or a production contract.
Right now I'm signed to my company so if they're going to sign me, they're
going to sign my company.
Are you
happy with how labels treat Spanish artists?
At the end
of the day, labels are businesses. You have to be smart enough to change
and adapt, and once you get in there, you make your own changes. Right
now we've been doing it all on our own. We haven't had the major label.
What exactly
does Rico Entertainment do?
We're a media/PR
company and also an entertainment company. We do a lot of different things
besides G. Luger. Right now our focus is on G. Luger and getting a recording
arrangement set where we can touch a broader audience.
What's
next for you?
I'm doing
this deal with Crossover Jewelry Watches (crossoverwatches.com).
They're negotiating something right now trying to get a G. Luger watch.
We're trying to get some clothing lines popping also. The next step is
to get this Crossover Jewelry sponsorship.
What about
your album?
I'm still
working on the hip-hop album. It's actually going to be a little bit of
everything. It's going to be mainly hip-hop but I'm going to blend it
with some reggaeton and some other things. It's a day in the life of a
Latin dude. I'm not going to confuse anybody who doesn't understand Spanish,
but it's a day in the life of the hood with your Spanish friends. You're
going to hear a little bit of everything. I'm just trying to do something
way different from what everybody else is doing. If I'm not adding anything
to the game, I'm disrespecting the game.
What do
you want to say to everybody?
I know all
my fans have been supporting like crazy. I know they've been supportive.
Thanks for keeping up with me and being patient with me. And shout out
to all the haters who leave the comments!
