What's
good JR?
I'm chilling,
working hard. I'm in the studio cooking up that crack that I usually put
out.
How's
"Writer's Block 3" coming?
It's hard.
I'm finishing it up right now. It's retarded. It's going to wake the streets
up for real.
How would
you compare this one to the other "Writer's Block" mixtapes?
I think I
stepped it up, lyric-wise and song-wise. This has that straight pure crack.
All of my mixtapes are crack, but I turned it up a notch on this one.
Why did
you record "Suit Up"?
There's a
lot of talking in the streets. There's a lot of hating going on and niggas
are saying our names. I'm sure you heard Mase say, "Fuck Dip Set."
If he says that, then fuck him. Whoever disrespects anybody in the Diplomats
is getting their motherfucking cufi smacked off like Jim Jones would say.
We're here to get money. We're not into that beef shit and battling back
and forth. We're from Harlem and BX and we're here to get money. If niggas
want to hate and try to come for the boys, I'm going to have to bite at
them. Cam may not respond, but I will. Get your cufi popped off brother.
Is there
beef between you and Mase?
There's not.
Realistically, it's not even beef. That record isn't even a diss track
to me. It's a "get-back" record, not a "diss" record.
Fall back fam. Stop coming at my peeps, stop coming at me, and fall back.
I'm not bringing nobody in it, but whoever wants to get in it, it's all
good. I'm not even looking for a battle or none of that, but if you say
my name, I'm going to react. I'm not going to stay shut. I'm JR Writer.
Word. I'm not one of those cats that doesn't get busy. Check my track
record. I gets it in. Word.
What's
going to happen to Mase if he keeps coming at you?
It's all
good. If he keeps on saying, "Fuck Diplomats," then I'm going
to keep saying, "Fuck him." Whatever. We can go back and forth.
It don't matter. I record my life on wax and what's going on. I feel different
types of ways and I put it out there. I'm not looking for any beef or
battles, but if a nigga says something, I'm not going to just sit there.
Are you
going at Jay on "Writer's Block 3"?
I'm just
waiting. My man Cam, that's nothing for him to handle. He can handle that
and push it out of the way and keep it moving. That's not an issue for
us because he hasn't said a word and I don't think he will. I'd rather
think about the people that are saying, "Fuck Dip Set" right
now.
Why do
you think Jay hasn't responded?
I don't know.
I don't really know. To keep it real with you, I think he's tired. He
might be washed up. I don't know.
Do you
think Cam and Jay beefing would hurt Juelz since he's at Def Jam?
I don't even
think it'll be a beef. I think they're going to sweep it under the rug.
Juelz is doing good.
The
Diplomats have an important code of conduct. What's the most important
code that you follow?
As a family,
don't snitch. And we stick together. We hold each other down. This isn't
a label, it's a family. It's a movement.
How's
your album coming?
It's basically
done. It's been done for about a month now. "History in the Making."
Hell Rell and I are also working on an album called "Double Trouble."
That's coming out crazy. We just handed in half of the album today. We're
going to come out with that right after Hell Rell's solo. That's going
to be retarded. That'll wrap up the year.
What potential
does your album have?
It's going
to make niggas step their shit up. I'm pretty sure niggas have heard me
on the mixtapes. You can't ignore me for too long. I'm going to make niggas
step it up a notch. I'm going to bring it back to the essence. I can't
even listen to these dudes' mixtapes and songs. They can't fuck with us.
They need to stop saying our names.
What have
been some of the challenges you've had to go through putting together
"History in the Making"?
Getting into
new things and rapping about new things, and just really getting deep
into my life and what I've been through.
Has it
been tough having patience waiting for your album to drop?
I love doing
the mixtape thing. I got patience. I'm not in a rush. My time is going
to come, and when it does come, it's going to be crazy. It wasn't tough
because I was here in the streets doing my thing, getting my buzz up before
my album comes out. I'm not in a rush. I'm about to put out "Grill
'Em." We're going to do the video and do the damn thing. Be on the
lookout for that record.
When's
the album dropping?
June 27.
And Hell Rell is coming out July 14. Then after that, we're going to put
out "Double Trouble."
How's
your chemistry with Hell Rell?
Yeah. Hell
yeah! When we're in the studio, we think like brothers. We just clique.
It's natural for us. It's gangster. We walk out the booth like it was
nothing. We're still cracking jokes, we do another song, and do the same
thing.
You built
your own studio. How important is it to have your own spot?
It's very
important. If you want to record, you don't want to have to call around.
Sometimes niggas are booked up. You don't want to be stuck like that,
sitting on your rhymes. As soon as I wake up, I go to the studio and record.
I'm there all day, unless I got a show. I put it in for real. I have a
lot of music that people haven't heard. The mixtape is crazy. I got real
thorough on this mixtape. I'm addressing a lot of shit on this mixtape
and putting a lot of niggas in their place.
The
Diplomats have always said, "It's a movement." Are you tired
of everyone calling their music a movement?
You know,
like Cam said, "There's a lot of swagger-jackers out there."
You need to stop jacking and get your own swagger. That's why we call
it a movement, because everyone wants to talk like us, dress like us,
rap like us
we can't help it, man. We're a movement.
Why do
the Diplomats have such loyal fans?
Because they
recognize real niggas. Real recognize real. They see that we came from
the same place they came from so they feel us. We're felt. We're real
niggas. And we move like a movement. We put out strong music and we stick
together. We're fly and we do us. People love that. They see it's a movement
and they move with us.
Is your
brother still rhyming?
Yeah, my
little brother Fred Money. He was on "Writer's Block 2." I got
him in the studio right now recording.
Are you
helping to bring him along as an artist?
I have to
get myself in the door before I can worry about anyone else. As soon as
I do that, I'm going to bring as many people as I can, whoever's hot.
First, I have to do me.
What's
up with Show today?
I'm with
Show right now. We're putting it in. They're all patiently waiting for
their turn right now.
What's
Luca Brazi been up to lately?
He's been
chilling. That's my nigga. He's putting out his DVD's.
Did you
hear about JR Rider getting caught up in a kidnapping scheme?
Nah, I didn't
hear about that. That's crazy.
What do
you want to say to everyone?
Keep up the
support. I'm going to keep putting out that powerful crack. Go pick up
"Writer's Block 3." I'm going to put out another mixtape before
my album drops. That's going to be crazy. Look out for my album "History
in the Making" coming June 27. Look out for "Grill 'Em,"
my single, we're about to shoot the video. Look out for Hell Rell and
Cam's "Killa Season."
