Method Man - 4:21: The Day After

After listening to "Say" and reading every interview I could find on Method Man, it would be very easy just to give this a wack review, as he clearly stated his disdain for the hip-hop media. Regardless of what any other outlet says/does to Meth, I can't jump on the hater train. 4:21 is one of the best albums to come out this year, as Meth did Meth from start to end. From the grimy "Ya Meen" (is Meth taking shots at Jay with the line "hip-hop ain't feeling them flip-flops, they feminine"?) to the soulful and somewhat whiny "Say," the Iron Lung keeps it tight. Scott Storch comes through on "Is It Me?" where Meth questions what's going on in the game. "Fall Out" could be one of the best party tracks to hit the radio if Mr. President gives it the push it deserves. "Fall Out" is a reason why you have to love the album. It's 2006 and we have an artist who can still be what he's about whether it's over a dusty sample, party track or even a skit. 4:21 will make a lot of fans, including me, forget about 2004's Tical-O: The Prequel. While Meth may not be inviting all the hip-hop journalists over to a pizza party anytime soon, we can all play his album at any pizza parties we attend.
